A BBC annual report has revealed the salaries of 96 of its best paid stars, with Chris Evans and Gary Linekar topping the list with wages of around two million pounds annually.

The main controversy was the gender pay gap; there was a £1.5 m difference between the highest paid man and woman.

The debate about whether revealing BBC pay was the right thing to do has split public opinion. Former Culture Secretary John Whittingdale argued that “if somebody is earning the equivalent of 1,000 households’ licence fees put together, then the licence fee payer deserves to know.”

Yet the counter point is that this being made public knowledge will only serve to inflate wages further, and this will act as a poacher’s charter, taking talent away from the broadcasting corporation.

Listener Maximillian feels the public deserves more transparency and talent should be paid less, here's what Benji Hyer had to say in response.

Broadcasted exclusively worldwide on W!ZARD Radio Station.
