What went wrong for the Conservatives?
Was it the poor campaign, with May’s enclosed approach under fire in particular for bottling it in crucial moments by not turning up to debates or connecting with the public? The un-cheery and depressing manifesto, the social care policy punishing their core voting bloc of the elderly, or its u-turns?
Did May lean too far to right, focusing on UKIP voters and not engaging with the 48% who wanted Remain? Did the terrorist attacks play a part, unveiling the truth about her drastic police cuts whilst in the Home Office?
Or was this all a backlash against her calling an early election and against a hard Brexit?
