7 Years by Lukas Graham is the first Number 1 charting song from the Danish pop band – who managed to kick Justin Bieber off of the top spot in the UK charts.
Discussing the meaning behind the song, frontman Lukas Graham Forchhammer says that the song is about his life so far and what he hopes to achieve in the future. The music video was released online in December 2015 and by March 2016 ha dreceived more than 33 million views.
We're listing our Top 4 covers of this track.
We had to put Leah Guest first, if only because this is perhaps one of the most original versions of 7 Years. She has changed the lyrics to reflect her own life, and even so she makes sure that this isn’t the centre-point of the cover. Her vocals are stunning and suit the tune oh so well.
We’re not sure why he chose this name, but FLOWRAG’s unique handle isn’t the most memorable part of this cover. Far from it. It’s his vocals. They’re extremely strong and almost give a whole new meaning to the song. Also, he’s employed a whole band to accompany him. Just beautiful.
Luke James Shaffer
Another crafty edit of 7 Years comes from Luke who applies a loop station to bring a whole new dimension to the song. He combines synth, acoustic guitar, beat boxing and his own vocals to make a mix of a tune which you can’t stop watching! Don’t skip a moment of the video as he shows you around how he makes the tune what it is.
The deep vocals and harmonies on The Treble’s cover make it almost Mumford & Sons-like, but we like Mumford so that works well. This cover is perhaps closest to the original out of all of the covers that we have showcased on here – but the strong deep vocals and “grand hall” feel of the instruments make it amazing nonetheless.
